So Worth It | The Worshipper's Thought of the Day

It's amazing how many people, particularly Christians, suffer from low self-esteem.  I vividly remember my own struggle and how hard it was to "feel" loved, valuable and appreciated.  A recent phone conversation, interestingly enough, was what brought all this back to mind.  The friend and brother with whom I was speaking was excitedly explaining how grateful he was to GOD for sending His Son to Earth to die for us because we certainly weren't worthy of this act of love.  When he said that, I thought to myself, "Even though we weren't worthy of Christ's passionate sacrifice, I'm so glad we were worth it."

Our Father recognized our worth by sending Christ to die for us while we were yet sinners (Romans 5:8).  Thanks be to GOD that He didn't wait until we recognized our own worth or even got our act together (as if any effort on our part could merit the atonement for sin).  But because His purpose prevails (or, as stated in Proverbs 19:21, His counsel stands) and is not moved by time, situations or attitudes, GOD knew our end long before the beginning (Jeremiah 1:5).  Even when we were up to our eyeballs in a mess of sin, our Father saw us sanctified and ordained THEN just as He did BEFORE the foundations of the world.  And because of the awesome staying power--Glory to GOD!--of His purpose, GOD made a public declaration through His Son's death at Calvary that we're so worth it.

Now our Father wants to see if WE believe
He's worth us dying to our flesh and former lifestyles that His purposes for our lives might be fulfilled.  Even though GOD's love for us is not predicated upon us doing right, we should desire to do that which pleases our Father as a result of His amazing act of love towards us.  You see, it's when we stay in alignment with the principles of the Kingdom that we enjoy FELLOWSHIP (which is conditional) in addition to RELATIONSHIP (which is unconditional).  And it's through fellowship with GOD that we begin to understand His purposes for our lives and see why we're so worth it.

If we never know His fellowship, then we'll never know why we're so valuable to our Father.  Therefore, the cure to low self-esteem is not just a relationship with GOD (or salvation) but a vibrant fellowship with Him as well.  Coming to an immutable understanding of our respective reasons for being will send the spirit of low self-esteem running and screaming.  GOD created each of us to be the answer to a problem, and He gave His only begotten Son to ensure that we, His "answers," manage to connect with the "problems" we were created to solve.  If that doesn't make us both feel AND KNOW we're loved, valuable and appreciated, I don't know what can.  We're so worth it; and He is, too!

  1. E, adopting the eyesight of God concerning ourselves and life is what counts. Besides, our lives were His idea in the first place.
