Becoming the Being | 01.30.2012
There is something to be said about being consistent. The predictability that is characteristic of consistency IS NOT a bad thing. As a matter of fact, it's crucial to the effectual availing of ourselves for the King's use. Yes, the gifts and calling of GOD come without repentance (Romans 11:29); but that's certainly no excuse for being inconsistent. Our problem is that we've become more comfortable with having the gifts and calling than we are with having the power required to effectively operate in them. And since inconsistency is an indicator of disobedience, GOD is not interested in authorizing (or granting authority to) those who aren't willing to "become".
This past Sunday's message at church was entitled "The Metamorphosis of Becoming the Being". One of the points Pastor Nicole Matthews made that immediately resonated within me was when you are consistent with the "be's", then you "become". Committing ourselves to being WHAT GOD desires us to be causes us to become WHO He's predestined us to be. The following scriptures are just a few examples: 1 Corinthians 15:58, Galatians 6:9, 2 Thessalonians 3:13, Genesis 1:28, Ephesians 5:1 and Philippians 4:6. And there are plenty more scattered throughout the Bible. We must strive to be in order to become. There must be consistency in what we do so that we can take on the identity of our existence.
GOD allows us to go through times of suffering because it's ultimately meant to create consistency of character. He desires our obedience MORE than us operating in our gifts and calling. Furthermore, for all the people who feel their lifestyles DON'T compromise the gifts and calling of GOD, know that HE IS NOT IMPRESSED BY US. GOD gave us the gifts and calling in the first place, so build a bridge and get over it because He already has. GOD wants obedience, and we obey Him by simply being consistent with the "be's". The suffering we endure creates opportunities for us to exhibit consistency of character, which causes us to become the beings GOD has designed us to be. Therefore, our acts of obedience done consistently will manifest a new identity that will cause us to accelerate (as seen in the life of Paul in Acts 9). If you're looking to accelerate, then just be consistent so you can become: obedience is still better than sacrifice.
